'Woman In Black' Trailer Commentary: Beware, Daniel Radcliffe!
"What she wants is unknown, but she always comes back: the specter of darkness, 'The Woman in Black.'" Now, if that haunting nursery rhyme echoed by a young child's voice doesn't send shivers down your spine, perhaps you don't have a pulse or perhaps you're just a wee bit jaded by the horror movie scene. Frankly, MTV News deputy managing editor Eric Ditzian and yours truly, Movies Blog editor Josh Wigler, had a hard time figuring out which way we were feeling about that very question while recording our recent commentary on the "Woman in Black" trailer, which you can watch in the video above. As our very own Aubrey Sitterson noted just last week, the "Woman in Black" trailer features some of the creepiest things of all time, including rhyming children's narration and blank-faced girls in matching dresses. On the one hand, the trailer is spot-on in its attempt to creep the bejeezus out of the viewer this viewer, at least though its method of terror is, perhaps, a bit expected. Children speaking in eerie rhyme is an all but guaranteed mode of horror travel at this stage of the game. A mysterious figure appearing from behind the protagonist's shoulder, too, is nothing new. But does the expected or, dare I say it, the cliched always net out as something unworthy of our time? Not by a long shot. For me, and for many fans I expect, the real wrinkle here is the addition of Daniel Radcliffe. Boy Who Lived, you are not in Hogwarts anymore: this movie looks to be a supernatural flick of a whole different color, and it's going to be very interesting to see how the erstwhile "Harry Potter" star navigates a brand new genre with a bleaker tone than the already decidedly dark "Deathly Hallows" conclusion. For more of mine and Eric's thoughts on the "Woman in Black" trailer, click the video at the top of the post. And we want to hear from you, too, so hit the comments section and go on Twitter to let us know what you think.

'Betty Blue Eyes' will close
Musical Betty Blue Eyes will shutter in London next month.
"Betty Blue Eyes," the new West End tuner from Brit mega-producer Cameron Mackintosh, will shutter next month after a disappointing run of six months. Musical received glowing notices when it opened in April, but according to Mackintosh, the production never quite caught on with auds. "We have been consistently playing to just over 50%, but it just isn't enough to cover the costs," he said in a statement. Tuner was the first new musical to be produced by Mackintosh ("The Phantom of the Opera," "Les Miserables") since his 2001 outing "The Witches of Eastwick." Capitalized at about $6.4 million, "Betty" is based on the 1984 screen comedy "A Private Function." With music by George Stiles, lyrics by Anthony Drewe and book by Ron Cowen and Daniel Lipman, the tuner centers on the inhabitants of a small town in northern England in 1947 and their local celebration of an impending royal wedding. "Betty Blue Eyes" is set to shutter Sept. 24 at the Novello Theater. On the upcoming slate for Mackintosh is a new staging of "Phantom" that will bow at a U.K. regional theater next year. Hunger Games sequel gets a release date
There are some bullish announcements being made in Hollywood right now. Last weekend saw Sony announce a release date for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and now Lionsgate have repeated the trick by announcing the arrival of The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire on 22 November 2013.Bearing in mind the first film hasn't even finished shooting, it's a confident move on the part of the studio, although given the huge popularity of the books, they're probably reasoning their built-in audience will turn out for the sequel regardless of how well the original is received. Lionsgate COO Joe Drake gave an accompanying statement hyping up the studio's excitement in the project with the usual PR flannel. "The magical thing about the The Hunger Games trilogy is that the books have such a vastly broad appeal," he burbles. "The stories truly offer something for everyone, and the period around the Thanksgiving weekend is an opportunity for families and friends to make an event of going to the movies."The first film, simply entitled The Hunger Games, will arrive on 23 March next year, with filming soon set to wrap on the Jennifer Lawrence-starring adventure. Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Toby Jones, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland are just some of the big names set to flesh out an exciting supporting cast. The trilogy is set in a post-apocalyptic version of America, in which the ruling government selects a boy and girl from each of the country's districts to participate in a brutal survival event known as The Hunger Games. No word as yet on the future of director Gary Ross, and one suspects that, had Lionsgate decided to retain him for part two, they probably would have announced it. Better make this one count then Gary... no pressure.Source: VarietyHungry for more or are Lionsgate's eyes bigger than their stomachs? Have your say here!

New Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy International Trailer Ups the Intrigue
· The second international trailer for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has arrived online and it’s just as tense as before, but with one added twist: the music from X-Men: First Class! (Hat tip to Cinema Blend for that pull.) If only Michael Fassbender was cutting his way through Cold War Europe in this one too! Alas, you’ll have to settle for Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Colin Firth and a host of other British thespians. While you await the U.S. trailer for the Tomas Alfredson-directed John LeCarre adaptation, watch this bit of exciting marketing ahead. Your Thursday Buzz Break is here. [via Cinema Blend] · Bad news, Steig Larsson fans: there won’t be a posthumous fourth novel in the Dragon Tattoo series. “There’s the beginning of a fourth novel,” Eva Gabrielsson, Larsson’s former girlfriend, told the BBC. “I would estimate it to be about 200 pages, given what I saw in late August during our last vacation, and given what I knew of Stieg’s workload in his last two months. It probably doesn’t hang together. Stieg was a spontaneous writer, he could write scenes and not knit them together until later on - he just liked the scene. You can’t call it a novel.” [BBC via Digital Spy] · Daredevil director Mark Steven Johnson will take the reins on Autobahn, which sounds like Buried in a car. “Autobahn is the story of a washed-up ex-Formula One driver who wakes up trapped inside a BMW on the side of the Autobahn, Germany’s famed high-speed roadway, which has no general speed limit. He answers a phone ringing in the glove box, only to be told that he has 90 minutes to deliver the bomb-rigged car to a target or his wife and daughter will be killed.” [THR/Heat Vision] · Tribeca Film has acquired Edward Burns’ latest film Newlyweds, which closed the Tribeca Film Festival back in April. Look for it to debut on a number of platforms by the end of the year. [Press Release] · You can stop telling J.J. Abrams the ending of Lost was disappointing. “For years, I had people praising Lost to death,” he told The Guardian, “and now they say: ‘I’m so pissed at you for the end of Lost.’ I think a lot of people who were upset with the ending, were just upset that it ended. And I’ve not yet heard the pitch of what the ending should have been. I’ve just heard: ‘That sucked.’” [Guardian UK]
